Counselling gives you the opportunity to talk confidentially to someone in a safe and non-judgmental environment who is trained to assist you in talking about your life and the difficulties you are experiencing. It maybe upsetting to talk about these things, but it can help you to feel less confused, and give you an understanding about the way you are feeling. From this you may be able to work towards making changes in your life or come to terms with those things that you may not able to change. Psychotherapy explores these issues in greater depth and because of this it usually takes longer.
You will be invited to talk about the issues that concern you and together with the counsellor, explore the difficulties you are having and work towards an understanding that will help you to cope with situations and issues in your life.
Each session is 50 minutes, usually weekly, on the same day and time each week. Initially 4 sessions are suggested to give you the opportunity to talk about your problems, explore your feelings, and assess whether therapy is helpful for you at this time. These sessions give you the experience of what counselling is like and will also provide the time to either complete the work you wish to do, or start to address your issues in greater depth.
All that takes place within the therapeutic relationship, between you and the counsellor, is kept confidential unless you, the client, give written permission for information to be shared. If it appears that you or another person is at risk, with your full knowledge, an appropriate agency may be contacted.
Each session is £35.00 There are a few lower cost appointments available for students and people on low incomes.
