I have a background in nursing, having worked for several years as an Occupational Health Adviser for various companies. In this capacity I have provided advice and support to people with health problems, assisting them to manage at work, and help to ensure their employers provide appropriate support and understanding.
This experience has involved significant work with people experiencing stress and depression as well as working with people following traumatic events.
It is because of my involvement of working with people who were experiencing anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress that I decided to undertake further training in counselling and psychotherapy at The School of Psychotherapy & Counselling, Regent’s College, London.
I now work as a counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice and also for Employee Assistance Programmes. I work as a volunteer counsellor for Manor Farm Family Centre in Sandy, and CRUSE Bereavement Service in Bedfordshire. I have previously worked for MIND and the Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living.
As an integrative counsellor I work with different psychotherapeutic methods including Person Centred, Existential, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused.
The method that I choose to work with depends primarily on the person, as I consider it is important to match the right treatment to the particular situation of the person concerned.
Some of the problems which can be helped by counselling and psychotherapy include::
I also work with people affected by a cancer diagnosis (their own or someone else's).
